Paintless Dent Repair

What is Paintless Dent Repair (PDR)?

In a world where so much is achieved with automation, there is still much to be said about workmanship in the automotive industry. Here at Lone Star Collision Center, we value our auto techs and their competence and experience with all of today’s newest auto body techniques and solutions. Paintless Dent Repair is done at our shop through a specialized team of PDR certified techs. The technique is the fastest and most cost-effective way to get rid of certain kinds of exterior damage.

What is PDR Used For?

Paintless Dent Removal can be used most effectively on door dings, creases, hail damage, and dents that have not broken the paint. It works well on a dented hood or car roof as well. The idea behind the technique is that if the paint has not yet been damaged, the dent can be manipulated back into shape using precision tools and a technician’s special touch. The process eliminates the need for sanding and painting and maintains the integrity of the original factory paint.

Process and Timeline

This type of car dent repair is done at our shop through an experienced and trusted third party service provider. PDR takes a lot less time than traditional body work because it does not require the ordering of any parts, the use of fillers, sanding, or painting.

How Does it Work?

Paintless dent removal is an art that requires high levels of workmanship and craft. The technique requires precise tools and highly specialized technicians who understand the process. PDR requires that the damage be accessed through the back of the car section. The dent is located using light and a special reflection board that allows for visibility of the finest details in the dent. The reflections show the curves, contrasts, and elevations of the dent so the technician can apply pressure to the dent and use a series of pushes and taps to prompt the metal to fall back into place. If the dent cannot be accessed through the backside, there are other methods used to bend the metal back into place without compromising your factory paint.

How Long Does It Take?

Depending on the complexity of the dent and where the dent is in your vehicle, the process of PDR can take anywhere from one hour to a couple of hours. Our typical turnaround time is one day. If you have a more heavily hail damaged car, this may take one to two days. The process is insurance approved and can save drivers money because of its efficiency and relatively easy process.
